PSD leader Mircea Geoana: NATO Summit is a failure both for the US and for Romania
Social Democrats (PSD) leader Mircea Geoana declared that in his view, the Bucharest 2008 NATO Summit is a complete failure from the point of view of American interests and their allies. He added that Romania is also affected by the failure because it danced on US laps and actively sustained the case of Georgia and Ukraine.
Geoana’s declarations come after Macedonia did not receive an invitation to join NATO, as the other two countries on the NATO list, Croatia and Albania did. Moreover, neither Ukraine nor Georgia received the membership action plan, as Americans pushed for.
Thus, the Social Democrat leader considers that current developments of the Summit prove Russia’s increasing influence on the international scene. He adds that the Western borders become more fragile and unclear strategically while on the Eastern side, there is a clear re-affirmation of Russian influences, referring to Georgia, Ukraine and Republic of Moldova.
