Pubs, restaurants warned over non-smoking areas

HotNews.ro

Romanian bars and restaurants risks fines unless they organize special areas for non-smokers, according to EU laws, the National Authority for Consumer Protection-ANPC has warned. Economic operators not obeying such laws risk fines of 1000-5000 RON (cca 300-1500 euro) and supplementary sanctions, including temporal closure, the Authority warned.

The new regulations entered force in Romania on January 1, 2007 as the country joined the European Union.

ANPC has already launched a campaign to see whether pubs and restaurants comply with the new norms. Fines of over 1 million RON have already been applied.
