Raid in the Port of Constanta / Authorities check customs papers and deposits

The Port of Constanta, South East Romania is checked on Thursday, by police officers together with customs officers and fiscal authority representatives. The investigation targets customs papers, deposit, transfer and measuring systems in search of illegal introduction and distribution of merchandise in the port, Romanian news agency Mediafax reads.

Authorities aim at preventing and countering situations where taxes for commercial operations are not paid and de-structuring felon groups specialized in organized crime. President Basescu declared in February that no customs should remain unchecked and said that Constanta’s port is and should be a priority for authorities.

Moreover, anti-graft chief prosecutor Daniel Morar declared at the time that it is unusual that statistically there are no penal files involving personnel at Constanta’s port considering its potential.
