Romania local elections: turnout of 33.84% nationwide by 5 p.m.
Only 33.84% of Romanians showed up and voted by 5 p.m. in the local elections taking place across the country on Sunday. According to a spokesman of the Central Electoral Office, turnout in urban areas stood at 26.18% and in rural areas reached 46.39%. The Bucharest Electoral Office announced 21.46% of the citizens of the capital city showed up and voted by 5 p.m. Turnout at country level by 5 p.m. in the first round of elections on June 1 reached 34.29% nationwide and 20.88% in Bucharest.
The highest turnout was reported in the counties of Gorj (53.53%), Ilfov (53.43%) and Dolj (50.14%) and the lowest in the counties of Braila, Galati and Covasna with less than 28%.
In Bucharest, the highest turnout was reported in District 1 (26.51%) and the lowest in District 3 (16.55%).
