Romanian athlete, in hospital after accident in bobsleigh training for Vancouver Olympics start
Sportswoman Violeta Stramaturaru, part of the Romanian bobsleigh Olympic team taking part in Vancouver Winter Olympic Games, was taken to hospital on Thursday night, February 11. She was unconscious, following an accident during training, the international press reads.
21-year old Stramaturaru suffered several strong impacts with one of the rims of the gliding sport track. Doctors feared that the accident will take her out of the competition, but she has been already released and is outside any danger.
Violeta Stramaturaru is scheduled to take part in the single bobsleigh competition on February 15. Among her opponents is also her sister, Raluca Stramaturaru.
Vancouver Winter Olympics starts on Friday evening. Romania’s delegation is made up by 29 athletes, the biggest number a Romanian team has ever taken to a winter Olympics.
