Romanian convicted to death in the US, to spend life in jail
Gabby Tennis, the Romanian who received a death sentence in the United States, for killing a 91-year old veteran, reached a deal with the prosecutors and had his sentence commuted to life in jail. The deal was made a few hours before the jury was able to reach a verdict.
According to the prosecutors, Tennis killed Albert Vesella, a US Navy veteran, in June 2003, during an attempted robbery in Hollywood. The Romanian was trying to the money he needed in order to marry a 16-year old, Sophia Adams.
