Romanian PM Tariceanu: Agriculture problems are not solved through Brussels interventions

HotNews.ro

Romanian PM Tariceanu said on Tuesday that the country’s agricultural problems would not be solved by EU’s political interventions but by complying with the the agreements between Brussels and Bucharest.

Tariceanu said after talks with European Parliament Hans-Gert Pottering that he was convinced Romania would fulfil its obligations without activating any EU safeguarding clause.

The EU warned Romania last week that it risked the activation of such a clause, which would prevent it from receiving European farming aid, unless it solved its problems with the agriculture payment systems.

Pottering said that Romania progressed a lot over the last years but warned that efforts needed to continue in a consistent manner.
