Romanians celebrate today the National Hymn Day

HotNews.ro

The Day of the National Hymn is celebrated today in Romania. A public ceremony organised by the Romanian authorities is taking place in Piata Tricolorului, in front of the National Military Circle Palace in Bucharest. The Romanian PM Emil Boc will take part in the event.

The schedule features singing the hymn, a religious ceremony, followed by military songs, the Internal Affairs Ministry announced. The main city in each Romanian county will celebrate the occasion as well.

July 29 became the National Hymn Day in 1998, proposed by the Senate, to remember the day of July 29 1848, when „Desteapta-te, romane!”, the Romanian national hymn, was sung for the first time. The hymn was later banned in Romania, but it became national hymn after the Revolution in 1989.
