Russian press: European missile shield to be approved by NATO leaders

NATO leaders gathered at Bucharest will approve the missile shield in Europe pushed by Americans, an anonimous sources from the US delegation declared, quoted by Gazeta. According to the newspaper sources, the final declaration will consent the substantial contribution of the allies to implement the shield in the Czech Republic and Poland.

National Security councellor Stephen Hadley argued that American President George W. Bush’s main purpose at the meeting with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin is to find a solution to the missile shield problem. Bush argued that the sytem will protect both the US and NATO members against any possible rocket attacks from the Middle East.

Several Russian and American delegations have met over the past month in order to try and find a working solution for the shield, constantly pushed for by the United States. Moreover, Bush declared in a press conference at Bucharest that the missile shield is not a threat for Russia, on the contrary.
