Social-democrats: We're not taking part in consultations with traitors and deserters
PSD members are going to Cotroceni Palace today to take part in the debates regarding the alteration of the Constitution, but the party members will not engage in discussions with the group of independents, who PSD vice-president Constantin Nita called „traitors” and „deserters” for RFI reporters. Nita added that he wants a mix uninominal vote for the Deputies Chamber. The Liberals and Social-Democrats are invited again today at 6 pm for consultations addressing the reduction of the number of MPs and the single-chambered Parliament. On Monday, the leaders of the two parties have left discussions with President Traian Basescu, blaming the presence of the independent MPs group.
- „We will not take part in consultations with these traitors and deserters, people with no personality who so far have no legitimacy. When they are elected by the people on the lists of parties or individually, under a party’s logo, then we can sit down and talk. Naturally, if they had been state men, serious men, they would have resigned from the Parliament as well. It would have been fair, it would have been moral. But probably the new constitution will feature this detail, namely the MPs that leave a party for another should lose their MP status. We will go today in Cotroceni and we will make our position known regarding the way we currently see the change of the Constitution. We cannot agree with a single-chambered Parliament. We will support the two-chambered Parliament: one should represent the regions – the Upper Chamber – and certainly the deputies Chamber, which will have to elect the deputies through a mix vote, namely nominal and party lists, like in Germany.”
Liberals and social-democrats are invited again today, Tuesday March 16, at 6 pm to the Cotroceni Palace to attend consultations addressing the single-chambered Parliament and the cut in the number of MPs. On Monday, the leaders of the two parties left consultations with President Traian Basescu, going as reason for their gesture the presence of the independent MPs group.
