Teachers blast PM Tariceanu over salaries
The National Education Federation – FEN, a trade union alliance of Romanian education employees, accuse PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu of “arrogance” ofer his refusal to negotiate teachers’ claims with their representatives.
FEN says in a press release issued on Thursday that the Government should be blamed for a “crisis” that affects the educational system in the country as real salaries for its members have risen a lot less than the government has promised.
“With stupor we note that PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu would rather talk with trade unions via the mass-media, instead of negotiating with them directly. That makes us think the PM agrees with this state of tension” despite the interests of 5 million Romanians – teachers, students and parents – are at stake, says FEN head Catalin Croitoru.
Education trade unions have threaten to block the start of the school year due to begin next week unless the government agrees with better salaries for teachers.
