Jeffrey Franks, chief of International Monetary Fund mission in Romania, declared after discussing with the Romanian minister of Finance on Thursday that the Fund’s representatives are willing to be flexible negotiators, bearing in mind that the economic situation got worse.

„We’re at the beginning of our discussions and we’re evaluating the macroeconomic programme. In today’s discussion we took into consideration the fact that the economic situation is worse, as it is its impact on the budget. We’re willing to be flexible because the economic situation got worse”, Jeffrey Franks said, quoted by Romanian press agency NewsIn.

An IMF mission, presided by Jeffrey Franks, is currently in Romania. The mission is here to evaluate the way Romania fulfilled its commitments made in March, when signing the IMF agreement.

The conclusions will be presented when the mission ends, that is August 10. The score is the second instalment of the loan, namely 1.9 billion euros. The first instalment brought 5 billion euros in Romania.
