Tbilisi authorities accused Russian forces of firing at the official delegation of the Georgian President, Mikhail Saakhashvili and his Polish counterpart, Lech Kaczynski. The official convoy was close to South Ossetia, Romanian news television Realitatea TV informs.

The two presidents were visiting a control point near Akhalgori city when Russian military forces started shooting, the Georgian President’s spokesperson, Nato Partskhaladze declared, quoted by AFP.

The two presidents were out of peril as they left the area immediately. He added that he was not sure that the attack targeted the official convoy or whether it had another target. Warsaw confirmed that the Russian forces started firing at the official convoy, RIA Novosti informs quoted by Romanian news agency Mediafax.

Kaczyinski was present in Georgia to attend the ceremonies organized to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the „rose revolution”, that marks the day the Georgian President won elections.
