The Romanian ambassador from Portugal called to Romania after the verdict of collaboration with the communist political intelligence

HotNews.ro

Romania’s incumbent President Traian Basescu signed last Friday a decree calling back in the country the Romanian ambassador from Portugal, Gabriel Gafita, the Presidential Administration informs. The decision comes after the Appeal Court from Bucharest issued in May a verdict according to which Gafita collaborated with the Securitate, the communist political intelligence service from dictator Ceausescu’s era.

In May, several days after de Court of Appeal’s decision, The Romanian Foreign Affairs Ministry (MAE) called the Romanian ambassador from Portugal in Bucharest for consultations, but Gafita returned to his post afterward.

Ex-Foreign Affairs ministers Mihai Razvan Ungureanu and Adrian Cioroianu asked for the CNSAS reports (The National Council for the Study of the Securitate Archives), in a step to refresh the Romanian diplomatic body.
