The Wall Street Journal: beer consumption in Romania reveals that the economic recession was serious

The economic situation in South East Europe, seen through an innovative perspective: beer consumption. In Romania, the beer consumption dropped by 10% in the first half of the year compared to the same period, last year due to the rough times and an economic recession.

The signal comes from one of the editors of the American daily Wall Street Journal, Christopher Emsden who analyzes the economic situation of our country from the beer perspective, on his blog. Several economic analysts in the world were expecting beer sales to maintain at high levels, at the thought that people would spend their money on beer.

However, Romania’s reality reveals that beer production continues to drop: Emsden notes that this year, growth rates at beer consumption dropped by 7% this year. The conclusion is thus clear: after a decade people start to give up beer consumption.
