Two nuclear submarines, one British and the other French, collided in the Atlantic in early February but the information only surfaced now in the international press. The information was released by AFP, quoting an article in British tabloid The Sun.

According to quoted sources, the HMS Vanguard and Le Triomphant submarines suffered serious damages but their nuclear installations were not damaged. The British sub was tracked to Faslane, Scotland for repairs.

The Sun reads that the two subs with crews of about 250 people had different missions at the time of collision, presumably February 3 or 4. British Defense minister refused to offer any comments but a spokesperson confirmed that the nuclear safety was not endangered at any moment.

HMS Vanguard is one of Britain’s four V Class subs, each armed with 16 ballistic missiles.
