Monica Niculescu was eliminated in the doubles competition by the Spanish pair Garrigues/Pascual, score 7-5, 6-3. The Williams sisters qualified in the quarter finals without any trace of doubt: Venus took advantage of Serbian Ivanovic’s injury, who redrew from the competition when the score read 6-1 1-0 for the American. Serena dominated Slovakian Hantuchova with authority: score 6-3 6-1. The first male player to qualify for quarter-finals was German Tommy Haas. Favourite no. 24 is going through an excellent season.
