France: 2.5 million euro fine for a company that did not offer its employees the chance to relocate along with the company in Romania
A French socks producer, that relocated its production in Romania was compeled to pay its 47 French employees 2.5 million euro because it did not offer them a chance to relocate along with the company in Romania for 110 euro/month a salary, Le Point reads.
Therefore, each former employee will receive their salaries for the last 30-40 months. In 2005, the company, Olympia located in Romilly sur Seine, nearby Troyes in France decided to relocate its production to Romania to cut costs.
At the time, a social plan was put forward and, in agreement with its workers, as company representatives claimed, the company decided not to propose unworthy transfers to the Romania factory at a 110 euro/month salary. However, some of the workers did not agree with this, sued the company and magistrates obliged the company to pay damages to its former employees.
