Romanian President Iohannis says expulsion of Russian diplomats is not decided at European Council as it is a matter of national security for each member state
Romanian President Klaus Iohannis said in Brussels on Friday that an expulsion of Russian diplomats is not something to be decided at the European Council, as it is a matter of national security each member state should decide on, according to news agency news.ro.
Asked whether an expulsion of Russian diplomats in Romania was considered, President Iohannis said the discussion is not something to be decided at the European Council. „It is a matter of national security in each member state and some colleagues had opinions on the matter and, as a result, many of us will go home and will continue this discussion in a proper constitutional format, before a decision is made”, he said.
He said he will make his decision public as soon as he has one.
European partners of the UK showed their joint support in Brussels, accusing Moscow of very probably being behind the poisoning of Russian spy Sergey Srkipal in Britain recently. They decided to recall the EU Ambassador to Moscow, according to the AFP.
