Structural funds payments for Romania – suspended until the Government puts up a system management evaluation
All structural payments towards Romania are blocked and will not begin until the Government sends an evaluation of the system it will use to manage the funds, said European Commissioner for Regional Policies Danuta Hubner on Thursday. „Romania must send a conformity report, namely a description of the system that will manage the European financing”, said the Commissioner in Brussels, NewsIn informs.
Hubner mentioned that Romania already received advance payments of 1.6 billion euros but. The Commissioner also pointed at the fact that Romania still has to absorb 58% of the pre-accession funds in the ISPA program – 1.1 billion euro – before 2010.
The official added that progress was made in the implementation of ISPA projects, but the pace must be maintained, in order to avoid losing the available funds.
