Hell on earth in garbage-dumped Naples
Italian citizens living in Pianura neighbourhood in Naples organized a violent protest against local authorities on Monday night in order to stop authorities re-opening a garbage disposal hole nearby. Italian newspapers read on Tuesday that protesters tried to block the access with iron fences while two buses were set on fire during the manifestation. A gas station in the vecinity was on the verge of blowing up because of the flames.
Several people were injured and some were arrested, Italian daily La Repubblica informs.
Corriere della Sera claims that journalists present at the scene were beaten up by participants in the protest.
Government spokesperson Silvio Sircana declares that today the Italian government will meet urgently to seek solutions for the garbage problems in Naples.
The whole scandal broke out after tons of wastes were left unwiped on Napoletan streets after garbage disposal companies refused to collect the garbage, arguing that the garbage disposal places are full.
