President Basescu: Romania supports Republic of Moldova's EU aspirations
Romanian President Traian Basescu said during a trip to Athens on Wednesday that the Republic of Moldova should be included among candidate countries for EU accession. The statement comes as relations between Romania and Moldova have been very tense since the April 5 general elections in the neighboring country and authorities in Chisinau accused Bucharest of involvement in Moldova anti-government protests in April, as AFP reports.
Last week, Chisinau accused Bucharest of aiming at annexing the Republic of Moldova, where authorities have appealed the European Union to stand against the „aggressive” policy of Bucharest towards the country.
Last week President Basescu said Romania would not stop promoting the idea that the Republic of Moldova should be part of the European Union.
