Top Liberals expelled from the party
The permanent board of the National Liberal Party-PNL, a senior member of the governing coalition, decided on Sunday to expel deputies Mona Musca and Ioan Ghise from the political group over their recently “proven” collaboration with the Communist political police, the Securitate.
PNL President, PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu, explained it was a decision of principle that would apply to all Liberals that collaborated with the Securitate.
Mona Musca, who until a year ago served as Culture minister and used to be seen as a moral pillar of post-communist Romania politics, said she would not challenge the party decision. She said however that such a decision should have been made after the body studying the archives of the Securitate, CNSAS, thoroughly analyzed her Securitate file.
