The social-democrats accept Dacian Ciolos as European commissioner for Agriculture
Social-democratic sources told HotNews.ro that PSD would support Dacian Ciolos for the role of European commissionaire for agriculture. Ciolos is also preferred by the lib-dems (PD-L). The same sources said PDS was lobbying at a European level, trying to get Germany’s to support Romania for the Agriculture mandate. PSD met in Turnu Magurele on Friday to discuss the elections’ results and the party’s relationship with PD-L.
CEX meeting on Friday saw the regional leaders being told that PSD will lobby to back Ciolos. According to HotNews.ro sources, PSD changed their position after certain Brussels officials supposedly show interest in Ciolos.
The nominalization for the European commission candidate brought debates within the Coalition. PSD and PD-L had long arguments on the issue two weeks ago, when PSD would have like to see social-democrats Adrian Severin or Vasile Puscas in the role. PD-L refused and announced that the debates will resume after the Summer European Council.
