Banks' Association President: Bankers will demand Central Bank to revise credit regulations
The managers of commercial banks will ask the Romanian Central Bank (BNR) to revise the rules for credits, in order to unblock the mortgage credits, said the president of the Romanian Banks’ Association (ARB), Radu Gratian Ghetea. „The new rules blocked the mortgage credits, mainly in this environment defined by fear and lack of trust. After making the adjustments demanded by the new rules, we notices that there are a very few persons who still qualify for a mortgage credit”, said Ghetea on Tuesday, in an intervention during the Romanian Banking Forum.
Ghetea emphasized on the fact that the market conditions were different at the time when the credit rules were released. The revising demanded by ARB do not refer to consumption credits, Ghetea added.
According to the ARB official, the new rules reduced the maximum debt threshold 5%, but other credit components – such as the mortgaged goods’ value or the payment term – make the threshold vary significantly.
The maximum debt threshold represents the report between monthly payments and monthly income.
