EU funds to Romania conditioned by new environment approval
A new environment-related approval must be obtained for all projects in Romania aiming to receive EU funds, including those already submitted for funding. The approval is linked to protected natural areas and also applies to initiatives that have nothing to do with such areas. According to the Romanian Environment Ministry, the process of approval lasts one or two weeks at least.
The projects submitted within the Regional Operational Program must receive the Natura 2000 approval no matter whether they relate to procurements or construction works.
The Romanian Development Ministry published the instructions related to the issue this week.
Entities submitting projects must contact environment agencies and receive a paper saying that the project would not affect natural habitats and protected species.
