Anonimul International Film Festival at its 6th edition
The 6th edition of Anonimul Interational Independent Film Festival started yesterday, August 10, in Sfantu Gheorghe (South-East Romania). The event attracted a large audience.
The host of the event, actor Mihai Baranga, was joined on stage by the president of the Festival, Marcel Iures, one of Romania’s most acclaimed stage and screen actors, featured in big international titles (Youth without Youth, Pirates of the Caribbean, Spooks, Goa!, The Cave, Project W, Layer Cake, Mission: Impossible, Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles).
„From all the anonymity, the idea of prestige starts to shape – the prestige of a list of words, like discretion, modesty, passion, consistency, even generosity. This is where this festival is heading!”, Iures said.
After a short concert performed by the choir from Sfantu Gheorghe, the audience preset at the opening night could see Los Abrazos Rotos (Broken Embraces) by Pedro Almodóvar, a film which had been selected in the Cannes 2009 official competition.
There was another debut on Monday: that of the Anonimul IFF Competition, with first fiction short movies. The Romanian works to take part in this competition are: Pe seama ta…, by Ana Maria Lazarovici, and O Familie (A Family), directed by Emanuel Pirvu.
The first titles from Actors who became Directors and Producers programme were introduced yesterday: short movies signed by actors like Jude Law, Ewan McGregor and Bob Hoskins from the collective film Tube Tales, 1999, and Away From Hitler, directed by actress Sarah Polley, with a double nomination for Oscars for Julie Christie in the leading role and for the best adapted script.
On Tuesday, the theatre halls in Sfantu Gheorghe will see the Competition for Long Films, where Treeless Mountain, by So-Yong Kim from South Korea will take part. It will continue with The Short Fiction Competition.
The Festival is organised by Anonimul Foundation, supported by the Romanian National Cinematography Centre.
