Anti-graft prosecutors demand Deputies approval to investigate ex-PM Adrian Nastase

HotNews.ro

Anti-graft prosecutors demanded Romanian House of Deputies approval to investigate former Social Democratic (PSD) PM Adrian Nastase, accused of taking bribe and forging official documents. The high official’s name is involved in a file concerning the way he came to own his current house located on the Zambaccian street. The house is estimated to cost about 1,500,000 euro.

Romania’s President Traian Basescu already approved the investigation. A connected case deals with former Transports minister Miron Mitrea. House of Deputies speaker Bogdan Olteanu confirmed that he received the request and added that the file will be discussed on May 5.

The situation of the Zambaccian file is however uncertain since the House of Deputies does not have an internal regulatory procedure to follow in such circumstances. According to the law, the files that did not reach the tribunal are considered secret.
