Appeal Court: Uninominal vote law remains unchanged
The Bucharest Appeal Court rejected the complaint filed by the far-right Greater Romania Party (PRM). The party asked for the suspending of the governmental emergency ordinance on the delimitation of electoral colleges, considering that the Ordinance comes against the Parliament’s wishes.
President Traian Basescu also denounced illegal elements in the ordinance, during a TV intervention on Wednesday. Basescu added that the Government appealed to a strategy used before – assuming responsibility for a law that later proved to have flaws and illegal articles.
On the other hand, Prime Minister Calin Popescu Tariceanu declared that the Government is ready to adopt the necessary measures so that elections date remains unchanged and the uninominal vote system is applied. In a radio interview, the head of government accused backstage string-pulling for the blocking of the uninominal system.
