European Parliament to decide on Wednesday the re-confirmation of Jose Manuel Barroso as President of the European Commission
The President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso will be reconfirmed on Wednesday for a new five year mandate as head of the European executive, with the support of the absolute majority, France Press informs.
He is sustained by the European People’s Party with 265 European Deputies, the party which actually proposed Barroso for a new mandate, by the Liberal and Democratic Alliance for Europe (ALDE with 84 European deputies) and, conditioned, by the Conservatives and European Reformists with 54 members.
Before the vote, Barroso presented his political program and among his priorities are the placement of the citizen at the center of the Union and the promotion of the European values and interests in the world. In his opinion, EU institutions can choose to work together and assure, in this way, they can ensure the leadership of Europe in the world.
Barroso is the only candidate standing for President of the European Commission. He occupies this position from November 2004.
