Foreign direct investments dropped by 35.9% in the first 8 months

Foreign direct investments totaled in the first eight months of the year 1.95 billion euro, a 35.9% drop compared to the similar period in 2009, of 3.05 billion euro, Romanian National Central Bank data reads on Wednesday. Direct investments from non residents in Romanian financed by 58% the current account deficit in January – August 2010, which increased to 34.07 billion euro.
Of the total foreign direct investments, most were capital participations – 1.27 billion euro compared to 1.46 billion euro in the same period, last year. Intra-group credits were 683 million euro compared to 1.69 billion euro in the same period, last year.
In 2009 the value of FDI was 4.89 billion euro, half of that registered in 2008.
