IMF foresees zero growth for the global economy in 2009

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) estimates that the economy is sinking in the crisis and the recession is worsening. The economy will perform weakly in 2009, experts say. In an interview for „Les Echos”, IMF general manger Dominique Strauss Kahn explained that his institution may consider a zero growth of the global economy in 2009, after the previous estimations pointed at + 0.5%, with a 2% recession in developed areas.

The official added that a second wave of countries demanding support against the crisis may be expected soon, the total amount Kahn expects to allocate for then reaching 250 billion dollars. Japan will provide 100 billion dollars of this sum.

The next IMF forecast on the global economy is expected in three months.
