Opposition has enough signatures to open president’s suspension process

Mircea Geoana, president of the main Opposition party, the social – democrats (PSD) announced on Friday that the list of signatures required to open the president’s suspension process was completed. So far, the list was signed by 163 parliamentarians, 146 out of the 148 PSD elected members and 17 representatives of the far-right party Great Romania.

The signatures can’t be used yet, since the juridical counselors in PSD failed to agree upon the content of the document to be filed at the Constitutional Court.

For president Basescu to be suspended, it would take 235 votes in a common session of the two parliamentarian chambers.
