Romania nominates Dacian Ciolos for European Commissioner seat

HotNews.ro

Dacian Ciolos is Romania’s proposal for European Commissioner, prime minister Emil Boc announced on Monday. Romania eyes the Agriculture portfolio in the European Commission. EC spokesperson Mark Gray told HotNews.ro that the Commission would not comment on the nomination.

Since it joined the EU in early 2007, Romania has held the portfolio for multilingualism in the European Commission.

Boc also said on Monday Romania expects the Czech Republic to sign the Lisbon Treaty, after which the EC President is due to start forming his team of commissioners.

Mark Gray said the Commission would not comment on the Romanian nomination and that the decision on the moment chosen for the announcement belonged to the Romanian part only.

EC sources had recently said Romania had no chance to get the Agriculture Commissioner seat or any other seat that would involve working with European funds.

Sources told HotNews.ro that the EC President had told Romanian authorities that the Agriculture portfolio was out of question.
