Sydney Pollack dies aged 73
American movie director Sydney Pollack, winner of seven Academy Awards for „Out of Africa”, died on Tuesday in Los Angeles, CNN informs. Actor, director and producer, 73-year old Pollack suffered from cancer.
His best known movies were „The Interpreter” (2005), „Random Hearts” (1999), „Tootsie” (1982), „They Shoot Horses, Don’t They” (1969), „This Property Is Condemned” (1966), and , as an actor, he is remembered for „Husbands and Wives” by Woody Allen, „The Player” by Robert Altman, „Eyes Wide Shut” by Stanley Kubrick or „Changing Lanes” by Roger Michell.
His closest collaborator was Robert Redford, who played in seven of Pollack’s movies, starting from „This Property is Condemned”(1966) and ending with „Havana” (1990).
Sydney Pollack was married for over 50 years to Claire Griswold.
