Romanian PM accuses opposition Liberal party of using money from bank privatisation in electoral campaign
Romanian prime minister Emil Boc claimed in a speech in the Romanian Senate on Tuesday that the opposition National Liberal Party – PNL „ate up” money from the privatisation of the Romanian Commercial Bank – BCR in its own electoral campaign, Romanian news agency Mediafax reports.
Emil Boc made the accusation in a reply to criticism by Liberal Senator Dan Radu Rusanu about the Government’s draft pension law.
Emil Boc, who also rules the governing Democratic Liberal Party – PDL, claimed that The Liberals „ate up” three billion euro from the BCR privatisation and used the money in the electoral campaign in a gesture for which the party should take responsibility.
He also recalled that Romania drew a European Commission warning for excessive deficit in 2008, a year when PNL was part of the government.
