Automobile Bavaria General Director says Romanians care too much about status
Michael Schmidt, General Director of Automobile Bavaria, BMW partner in Romania, says in a HotNews interview that BMW sales in Romania are forecast to grow by 7% in the next seven year if Romania continues to develop at the same pace as Spain after its EU membership. However, even before, the Romanian market was better than that in Poland or the Czech Republic.
Schmidt argues that Romanians care too much about their status as they want to show off in good, expensive cars just as BMW’s are. Moreover, he argues that with better roads and a good infrastructure, luxury car sales will definitely increase.
Schmidt reveals that the Romanian market is exclusively oriented to SUV’s rather than other car models. Thus, he argues that in Romania the BMW office sells 50% SUV’s as compared to Germany’s 15-20%. Basically, Schmidt argues that Romanians want a powerful car for the roads and weather in the country.
