Culture minister Kelemen Hunor announced on Tuesday that authorities started negotiations with representatives of the Royal House to extend the rent contract of the Peles Castle, an icon in Romania’s history. The Royal House plans to sell the Castle, the minister declared and saif that the government should consider purchasing the castle, Romanian news agency AgerPres reads.
When Hunor took over the Culture ministry, he announced that one of his priorities is to negotiate the contract with the Royal House on the Peles Castle. He said at the time that the government could buy the castle, even though the costs would be very high. The best solution at the time for Hunor was to try and extend the rent contract.
