Indonesian President approved the expatriation of Romanian Nicolae Popa on August 25
The Indonesian President, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono approved the request of Romanian authorities to expel Romanian Nicolae Popa, sentenced to 15 years of prison for economic fellonies and detained at Jakarta on December 2, 2009.
A press release of the Romanian Justice ministry reads that the Indonesian President approved on August 25, 2010 the expatriation decree. The next stage of the proceedings is a judicial one, the press release explains.
On December 9, 2009, Romania’s Justice ministry sent to the Romanian Embassy to Jakarta the request to expatriate Romanian Nicolae Popa on grounds that he was sentenced to 15 years of prison in Romania.
However, the expatriation procedure needs to be conducted under Indonesian law. The press attache of the Indonesian Embassy to Bucharest, Widya Airlangga explained for Mediafax that all legal steps are taken to expatriate the Romanian.
