A Romanian's research paper was quoted by a New York Times weblog

The research of the Romanian Cristian Pop Eleches, in collaboration with Ofer Malamud was brought to the attention of the American public by Stephen J. Dubner on Freakonomics weblog, from the New York Times. Dubner asks himself what are computers good for, except for computer skills and reminds his readers about the results of the research conducted by the two aforementioned, on the impact of computers in human capital development.

The research shows that access to a computer does not necessarily determine better grades at school and that it has both disadvantages and advantages. The research contains data from various schools that were part of the Romanian Education ministry program which wanted to help poor children buy a new computer.

The conclusion of the report reads that the use of computers has both advantages and disadvantages. Dubner considers that the research conclusions are interesting in the sense that most professors are trying to keep children away from computers.
