Adrian Nastase resigns as House speaker

The Social Democratic (PSD) deputy Adrian Nastase stepped down as speaker of the House on Thursday morning, justifying his resignation as a consequence of the PSD leadership’s decision but also as a gesture of honour towards the institution of the Parliament.

„I feel like regaining my freedom” said Nastase following his statement in the House of Deputies.

After two-year headship of the House, Adrian Nastase said that the next speaker would be elected from the three candidates proposed by the PSD, the Conservative Party and the governing Alliance D.A.

Adrian Nastase announced on Wednesday his intention to resign as speaker of the House following a non confidence vote within the party.
