Dacia pleads for the environment tax. Starting April, some 15,000 employees could get fired in Arges

Dacia’s general director Francois Fourmont will meet on Wednesday with representatives of the Romanian government for talks, a day before authorities are due to announce the decision regarding the modification of the environment tax for second hand cars.

In an interview for RFI Romania, Fourmont explained that he disagreed with the European Commission’s take, that the environmental tax breaches the EU legislation. On the one hand, he continued, the Commission declared that the environment needed to be protected and favored it while, on the other hand, it considers that old cars from France and Germany can be transferred to Romania.

The company’s director declared that he is expecting one important measure from the government: some measures that would encourage people to buy new cars. He added that, in the current context, the car industry is one of the most important for the national economic relaunch.
