Most immigrants in Romania come from the Middle East

Most immigrants in Romania come from Syria, Jordan, Iran and Egypt, a study on the phenomenon of immigration in Romania concludes, presented on Thursday by Soros Romania and quoted by news agency Agerpres. The research shows that up to 2004 the migration level decreased and starting 2005 – 2006 the level of foreigners from other countries increased considerably.

A big part of the foreigners are men that conduct commercial activities, taking advantage of the permissive laws, favorable to foreign investments the study reads. Unlike immigrants from China and Turkey, Romania receives immigrants from the Republic of Moldova who choose Romania for their studies and work and less for commercial activities.

In September 2010 in Romania there were 60,000 foreigners with residence of which 49,000 had temporary residence and 10,000 permanent. The study reads that a third of the immigrants from Romania come to study, 15% choose Romania for a job and under 5% for business.
