Romanian state sentenced at ECHR in the Revolution File / Maries receives 6000 euro
The Romanian state was sentenced on Tuesday at the European Court for Human Rights in the trial initiated by 21 December Association and other persons for breaching their right to life and the right to a private life, related to the investigation in the Revolution File. Teodor Maries will receive 6000 euro moral damages, Romanian news agency Mediafax reads.
The European Court of Human Rights decided that the Romanian state breached articles 2 and 8 of the European Human Rights Convention, referring to the right to life and the right to a private life. The Romanian state is bound to pay damages of 15,000 euro to Nicolae and Elena Vlase for breaching article 2 and 6000 euro to Teodor Maries, for breaching article 8.
Teodor Maries is the President of the Romanian Association 21 December. In addition the state has to pay trial expenses worth 20,000 euro to the lawyers who represented Maries. The Vlase family is the parents of a young man who was killed at the age of 19 years old in Brasov, during the Revolution in an anti-communist manifestation.
