UPDATE Education Law constitutional, court decides. President Basescu signs the bill
Romania’s Constitutional Court decided on Tuesday that a recently adopted Education Law was constitutional, thus rejecting claims against its constitutionality submitted by Senate speaker Mircea Geoana and opposition MPs, news agency Agerpres reports.
The decision is final and the bill can now be signed by the President.
Education minister Daniel Funeriu told HotNews.ro he would not comment on the decisions of the Constitutional Court, be they favorable or not. He said he would comment on the law once it is signed by the president as Constitutional Court decisions are not to be commented upon but to be applied.
UPDATE President Traian Basescu signed the Education Law on Tuesday and is expected to hold a press statement later today.
