Anti graft prosecutors unveil frauds involving EU funds

The National Anti Corruption Prosecution Office (DNA) ended the investigations and officially charged five persons for detouring European funds. The group was investigated for a prejudice of some 400,000 euros.
All five defendants worked in non-governmental organizations (NGOs).
„Between 2003 and 2005, Claudiu Oteleanu – head of the and also president of the and the – along with other two NGO representatives used the 400,000 euros in other purposes than declared.
The total of six NGOs should have organized Romanian / foreign student exchanges, targeting Spain, Martinique and Portugal, as well as villages and resorts in Romania as destinations for students from Italy, Poland, Bulgaria, Greece, Turkey, Latvia, Lithuania and Armenia.
