Mutu sentenced to pay the highest fine in football history

HotNews.ro

FIFA decided that Romanian striker Adrian Mutu has to pay 17.17 million euro to the Chelsea football club, as compensations for breaking the contract. The contract between Mutu and Chelsea was annulled when Mutu tested positive for cocaine consumption. The sentence can still be appealed.

Chelsea bought Mutu from AC Parma in 2003, for 15.8 million ponds sterling. The UK club owned by Roman Abramovich decided to annul the contract with the Romanian player in October 2004, when Mutu failed to pass an anti-doping test.
