Report: Romanian economic growth 4.1% in 2005, halved from 2004

The estimated GDP Romania registered in 2005 stood at 287.1 billion RON, up 4.1% compared to the previous year, according to data provided by the National Statistics Institute on Wednesday. The figure was half the growth registered in 2004, where the Romanian economy rose by 8.3%.

The economy was boosted mainy by construction works and services, both sectors reporting an improvement by 9.9% and 8.1% respectively. Their contribution to the overall GDP was 54..8%, according to the Statistics Institute.

Net exports last year had a negative contribution of -29792.2 million RON, higher than 2004 due to a higher increase in imports of goods and services (+17.2%) than in exports (+7.6%).
