Sanctions in Romanian football

HotNews.ro

26 Romanian football fans who committed acts of violence on the margins of a football match last week have been fined and are due to answer for their deeds in court, according to an official announcement on Monday.

Judges are due to decide whether these supporters, who confronted gendarmes at a match between Bucharest-based Dinamo and the Farul team from the Black Sea city of Constanta, will be allowed on Romanian stadiums ever again.

Interior minister Vasile Blaga announced today that another, internal investigation will take place to establish if gendarmes were right to confront the football fans in the Constanta incident on Saturday, which led to a Professional Football League decision to ban supporters on stadiums for Dinamo’s next two matches.

The incident comes as Romanians prepare for two rounds of UEFA Cup quarterfinals between Steaua and Rapid, two Bucharest-based clubs known for the rivalry between their supporters.
