Bucharest independent cabbies to march in Brussels

HotNews.ro

The Bucharest City Hall’s decision to issue a fixed number of taxi licenses stirred massive discontent among the independent cabbies, who decided to head to Brussels on Wednesday, to protest in front of the European Parliament.

In case their demands are ignored, they threaten to go on hunger strike.

According to Realitatea TV, the taxi drivers demand the liberalization of the licenses, claiming that some 10,000 drivers are stuck on the waiting lists in Romania. Drivers accuse the city hall of establishing criteria easy to be met by companies, not by independent persons.

On the other hand, the head of the Transport department in the Bucharest City Hall says that the law doesn’t discriminate.
